Since 1 January 2026, every Belgian business subject to VAT must be able to send and receive structured electronic invoices (the complete guide to Peppol in Belgium). So the first question is practical: how do you join the Peppol network? Here's what to do, step by step.
Can you register directly on Peppol?
No. A business cannot register itself on Peppol: registration must go through an accredited Peppol service provider, also called an access point. In practice, the network-connected invoicing or accounting software you choose handles this using your business details.
Source: Peppol FAQ, question 5, efacture.belgium.be. Some software lets you choose your own access point; most include one.
What are the steps to register on Peppol?
Registration takes four steps: check whether your business is affected, choose invoicing software connected to Peppol, let it register your enterprise number as your Peppol identifier, then check your listing in the public directory. You can then send invoices through Peppol and receive those from your suppliers.
- Check whether you're affected. An active VAT number is generally enough, even under the small business VAT exemption scheme. The authorities provide a tool to check, and the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises lists "Subject to VAT" under "Qualities" in your record.
- Choose software that sends and receives. The authorities publish a list of software solutions; inclusion does not mean certification. If your accountant prepares your invoices, choose with them.
- Let the provider register your enterprise number. They publish your business on the network, using your BCE enterprise number as its identifier (see below). Check the name and address they use: these are what your customers will see.
- Check your registration. Search for your own enterprise number in the Peppol directory, as explained in our Peppol check guide.
- Let your accountant and suppliers know. Most software detects your registration automatically, but a message prevents duplicate PDFs during the transition.
What is a Peppol access point?
An access point, or Peppol service provider, is the company that connects your software to the network. It transmits your invoices in a standard format everyone can read, encrypts exchanges to prevent third-party access, and automates document processing. It's like a telecoms operator: you choose yours, and you can reach everyone.
The official list of certified providers is maintained by OpenPeppol: Peppol Certified Service Providers. The description of their role comes from the Peppol FAQ, question 3.
What is my Peppol identifier (Peppol ID)?
In Belgium, your Peppol identifier is, at minimum, your enterprise number from the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises, prefixed with code 0208: for example 0208:0123456789, with all ten digits and no full stops. Providers are contractually required to register you this way, allowing suppliers to reach you without asking for anything.
Other identifiers, such as your VAT number (code 9925, for example 9925:BE0123456789), can be added if the parties agree (Peppol FAQ, question 4). Conversely, you don't need to collect your customers' Peppol identifiers (B2B FAQ, question 15).
Do you also need to receive invoices through Peppol?
Yes. The obligation covers sending and receiving: once you're registered, your Belgian suppliers send their invoices through Peppol, and your directory registration counts as agreement to receive them. Even a business that only invoices private individuals must be able to receive electronic invoices from its Belgian suppliers.
Sources: B2B FAQ, question 9 and end of the grace period. Before registering, ask your provider where incoming invoices will arrive and how your accountant will access them.
How does Eazyclick register you on Peppol?
With the Quotes & invoices module, it's done for you: your project manager activates your Peppol identity using your enterprise number and checks the published details with you. Your invoices and credit notes are then sent in Peppol format from the dashboard, with nothing to install and Belgian VAT and numbering checked.
The module costs from €35/month over 24 months (€44 over 12 months), plus a one-off €190 setup fee, available individually with any pack or as an option in the Booster pack. For receiving your suppliers' invoices, your project manager reviews the setup with you and your accountant. Explore the Quotes & invoices module.
Frequently asked questions about Peppol registration
Is Peppol registration free?
Registration has no separate price: it's included in the software you choose. According to the authorities, complying can cost nothing if it's included in a tool you already pay for (efacture.belgium.be). Prices and tax incentives are detailed in the complete guide.
I'm under the small business VAT exemption scheme: do I need to register?
Generally, yes: FPS Finance clarified in April 2026 that taxable persons under the exemption scheme are also subject to the obligation (efacture.belgium.be).
My accountant prepares my invoices: what should I do?
Agree on the most suitable application with them: that's the authorities' advice (B2B FAQ, question 3). Then check your registration in the directory.
How do I know if I'm already registered on Peppol?
Enter your enterprise number in the Peppol Directory. If your business appears with the document type "Invoice", you can receive invoices. Full details are in our Peppol check guide.
